2009-2010 AFPAD Grants

The Murdered or Missing Persons' Families' Association (AFPAD) announces the Isabelle Boisvenu Research Fund

2 grants totaling $3,500.00 each

Established in memory of Isabelle Boisvenu, deceased in December 2005, the purpose of this grant is to help families of murdered or missing persons.

Amount $3,500.00 each, paid out in full as soon as the recipients are chosen. Non renewable.
Goals - Encourage students to undertake research in the little known fields of homicide and\or the disappearance of a relative.

- Contribute to the support of research on the impact of homicides and disappearances, particularly in relation to victims' families.
Eligible candidates - Open to all Canadian citizens.

- Be registered full-time in a higher education establishment providing regular programs.
Eligible fields of studies Any relevant field of study which can provide further knowledge about the impact of a homicide or a disappearance on families. Applicable fields are: criminology, victimization and the Law, sociology, history and other human sciences, journalism, health sciences (medicine, nursing, psychology, traumatology etc.) and any other related field.
Eligible study cycles Preference will be given to students in second and third university cycles.

Conditions
of eligibility
- Be registered full-time in his/her program at least since the fall, 2009 session.

- Have a current research project underway in his/her home department and have officially recorded the title and the goals of the said project.

- Students are eligible at all stages of their research: from the time they submit their project to the time they write it up.
Winner selection - The quality of the project and its capacity of further advancing knowledge in the field of assistance, recognition and support for the families of victims of homicide or disappearance but also in understanding what close relations go through or any other relevant domain.

Drawing up the request file. Send to the AFPAD at the address previously shown - Proof of the student's full-time registration in his/her field of studies.

- Proof that the research project or intention thereof has been duly registered within his/her home institution

- The candidate's Résumé.

- A research project bearing title, objectives and methodology, consisting of two or three pages, as well as the name of his/her project manager(s).

- A letter of intent clarifying how the grant will help the student pursue his(her) project.
Grant issuing - GUARANTEES: Attribution of the grant will in no way be linked to search results and no such influence will be attempted. Similarly, no privilege of quotation of the preliminary results of the project (media or others) is required.

- The student undertakes to provide a copy of his/her work, once completed and submitted, to the AFPAD.

- The AFPAD can reproduce or use the whole or part of the results of the work once it has been completed and submitted, for the purpose of its mission.

- The student undertakes to come and give an oral presentation of the preliminary results of his/her research once a year, at the annual General Assembly of the AFPAD, for the duration of his/her research.
